Internet Freedom Compromised in Iran?

Internet freedom has become an essential element of  21st century populace. Internet’s dizzying fast capability to provide useful, relevant information in times of need and its capacity to bond people worldwide has been hailed as the single most important achievement in our path to global democracy.

Given the ubiquitous nature of internet, it is a better mass medium for the political parities the world over. Barack Obama’s election victory is the most recent and most profound example of this phenomenon. This same phenomenon some times drives repressive political governments to deny access to internet or some of  the dependent services.

This process of internet censorship had been tried by the government of Bangladesh to hide the backroom bickering among top leaders. News suggests Iran is most likely trying out the same tactic as the election looms large.  Apparently the opposition candidate to Mr Ahmdinejad is building and collaborating through online support and hence the drastic move.  The information on this fact is very sketchy. Only got a snippet from a Bangla newspaper and can’t find enough info to substantiate this further. Please feel free to send me more info if you have any.
